Tutorials for your handmade Biz

Okay, this tutorial link post is dedicated to items for a handmade biz.

Owning and running a handmade biz can get pretty pricey.

You need business cards,  sewn items need labels, etc.

If your already crafty why not do some of these things yourself?

Some of these things are just too easy not to do yourself.

First off is the inspiration for this post:

How to Make Your Own Hang Tags

from Saltwater Kids.

This is seriously an awesome idea, for reals!

Here is an Eco Friendly option from Handmade News

Crafting  A Green World shows you several Eco Friendly Tag options:

Labels are another need for sewn items. They can be super pricey.

Here are several different label options how to’s

Ribbon Label from Silly Gilly

Twill Tape Labels from Patchwork Pottery

Fabric Labels from Sew Take a Hike

Packaging is also something to think about.

I warp my goods in tissue paper and seal with a custom label that says Thank You and my biz name.

There are so many amazing packaging ideas.

Some depend on the type of item you make and sell.

Here are a few cool ideas for different products.

Magdoline shows us how to wrap Soaps.

Daniellexo gives you an array of packaging ideas on The Storque

Hmmmm, something to definitely work on.

#1 MUST HAVE for any biz big or small…..Business Cards.

Epheriell Designs shows you how to make your own with a “FLIP”

Crafting A Green World gives multiple options that are Crafty, Thrifty & Eco Friendly.

You can also use the Hang Tag Tutorial from the beginning of this post to make business cards.

Hope this post was helpful to someone!

Enjoy :)

I can’t wait to post pics from the beach. I took so many and alot of editing needs to be done.

The whole family had a fantastic trip.  It wore us all out though.

I am recouping from all the fun in the sun.

Funny how vacations {with children} seem to make you more tired in the end.

But it’s totally worth it :)

Shirring

I tried my hand at shirring for the first time today.

It did not turn out as well as I had hoped :(

See what I mean?

The front is not wide enough.

My mistake was cutting arm holes.

Ya live in ya learn :)

The same evening I decided I was going to get it right, and end up with a cute dress!!

This time was a much smoother process.

With better effects, see?

Up close and personal :)

and a matching hair clip!

Apparently I am obsessed with rosettes…..LOVE THEM!

I also adore scrap booking brads and my glue gun, ooohh and ribbon.

Another beach outfit made by me, and ready to go!

IF you haven’t tried shirring you really should.

It’s pretty easy, and looks awesome.

Ruffles & Stuff has a great tutorial on how to do shirring HERE.

DO IT!

The end.

Hedgehog Applique

Have you appliqued before? If you have, have you appliqued anything lately?  I have! Woodland animals are very popular these days.  It’s undeniable why…the cuteness!! I recently made a set of woodland animal glass tile pendants.  Included in the set are an owl, deer, bird, and hedgehog.  The hedgehog is just so cute. I HAD to make an appliqued tee from it.  I searched the Internet high and low looking for a free hedgehog applique download with no luck.  But I found a card with a hedgehog on it.  So, I begged hubby to sketch it for me so it was big enough to use for an applique.

He obliged, and I made this!

I think it came out so cute.

Aside from the droopy nose..ha!

It was a  really easy and fun project.

I used Amy Butler fabric for the body, and muslin for the face.

A ribbon rose,  bead for the eye, and button nose were hand stitched on.

How would you like to make one of your own?

Click HERE and you can download the pattern for free :)

If you do use the pattern please link back, and show me what you did!

I also sketched a bird (myself) and will be trying that out  next.

If it comes out cute I will definitely share.

Oh and a little shop update…

Some new colors for ruffle scarfs.

(which are light weight enough to wear through Spring)

Hopefully I will have some listed by the beginning of next week.

Winners of Izzy and Ivy Giveaway to be announced tomorrow.

Have a good night!!
