For the love of Yard Sales!

Yards Sales are a common Saturday activity for my family {as long as the weather is nice}.

I am fortunate that my hubby loves to go just as much as me, if not more.

Together we find some amazing items, at amazing prices.

Most of the time {but not always} I spot the item I want and tell him how much I would be willing to spend.

At that point Sir Cheap-O does the haggling :)

This weekend we got a late start.

The first house we pulled up to, I spotted something amazing.

Hubs got out of the car while I stayed in with the kids.

I saw him scoping out the same item I spotted.

He came back to the car and I asked how much it was, apparently it said “Make an Offer”.

So I told him I would be willing to spend $20, that’s it.

Off he went to do his thing {he is really good at the haggling part, since he’s super cheap}

He started out with a $10 offer.

The lady countered with $30.

You see where I’m going here…..We got it for $20.

Check it out!

With some sanding, some paint, and pretty crystal knobs.

{All of the work was done thanks to hubby}

We ended up with this:

PS: Please excuse picture taken by my phone.

Love, love, love the outcome!

Now we need to get it upstairs in the little girlies room.

Unfortunately, I am having some issues with my back and can’t lift anything.

So at the moment it’s chilin’ in the dining room.

Have you found any awesome goods at yard sales, or thrifting lately?

Leave me a link, I love to see good deals, and transformations of said good deals.

Shirring

I tried my hand at shirring for the first time today.

It did not turn out as well as I had hoped :(

See what I mean?

The front is not wide enough.

My mistake was cutting arm holes.

Ya live in ya learn :)

The same evening I decided I was going to get it right, and end up with a cute dress!!

This time was a much smoother process.

With better effects, see?

Up close and personal :)

and a matching hair clip!

Apparently I am obsessed with rosettes…..LOVE THEM!

I also adore scrap booking brads and my glue gun, ooohh and ribbon.

Another beach outfit made by me, and ready to go!

IF you haven’t tried shirring you really should.

It’s pretty easy, and looks awesome.

Ruffles & Stuff has a great tutorial on how to do shirring HERE.

DO IT!

The end.

Reading

I my last post I told you about the books I like the read, and some of the ones I’ve read recently.  Well that list has grown. Apparently I am a bit of a reading fanatic.  This bothers my hubby sometimes, but I figure I could have far worse addictions. Therefore he can just deal!

Anyway, here is the list of the books I have read since my last post about books.

I had started the first Black Dagger Brotherhood Book,  Dark Lover.

It was good so I also read the second,

Lover Eternal

and the third,

Lover Awakened

This series is good.

I have to get a hold of the rest of them!

I also read the most recent Lords of the Underworld book

The Darkest Passion

All of the above books are very steamy.

To take a break from all of the steaminess I went back to Teen Fiction.

It was recommended that I read the Series by Libba Bray.

A Great and Terrible Beauty

It was pretty good!

Now I am reading the second book,

Rebel Angels

and when I am done I will read the final book,

The Sweet Far Thing

Have you read any good books lately, or have recommendations?

Feel free to leave me a comment :)

Will blog again soon about some of the goodies I have made.

Also I have a list of tutorials I have found and want to share.

I am hoping to start up weekly giveaways next week as well so keep your eyes peeled!

Playing with Elements

I am still trying to learn how to take better pictures with my DSLR Camera.  There is SO much to learn.  My first accomplishment has been to stop shooting in Auto Focus, and use Manual.   I took that leap today. Woot!!

My husband, daughter and I went to Chipotle for lunch & I brought my camera along to play with. My daughter USUALLY likes to have her picture taken so there are way more pics of her then my son (bad mommy).   Today, she refused to lift her head for me to take a picture of her until…..I bribed her with a milkshake :) She lifted her head right up, but was no lookin too happy.

Here are some of the pic I took of her. There are Before Photoshop Pics, and After.  SOme of the before’s are better then the after’s.  I am still learning Photoshop Elements, and how to use the actions. So bear with me.

Here is one of my purse with one of the flower pins I made :)

Photography has so many different aspects to it.

SOOOO much to learn.

I am taking it one step at a time.

One day I will take stellar pictures.

Do you have any tips or advice?

Oh and if you haven’t already check out my

Camera Strap Slip Cover Giveaway.

{It ends Monday}

Hoping you have a fabulous weekend.

I shall be sewing my little heart out.

What will you be doing?
